Word on the Street: Immigrant


Amy Chua, author of Battle Hymn of a Tiger Mother and a Chinese immigrant, scolded her oldest daughter Sophia for making fun of someone for having any kind of foreign accent.

“Do you know what a foreign accent is? It’s a sign of bravery,” Chua said.

That’s what being an immigrant was to Chua. We decided to ask MVHS students what the word “immigrant” meant to them. Watch the video to find out.
