Homemade smoothies are a new alternative to staying healthy

Jamba Juice, Starbucks or any fast food restaurant are popular go to places for refreshing smoothies. However, store-bought smoothies contain a high amount of sugar, sometimes amounting to about 58 grams. Smoothies made at home are a great way to stay healthy after a workout. Check out these homemade smoothie recipes that are both easy-to-make and delicious.

Strawberry-Kiwi Smoothie

Stay full and fight disease. This high-fiber smoothie recipe becomes even healthier when you use organic kiwis.

SERVINGS: 4

Ingredients:

  • 1¼ cup cold apple juice
  • 1 ripe banana, sliced
  • 1 kiwi, sliced
  • 5 frozen strawberries
  • 1½ tsp honey

COMBINE the juice, banana, kiwifruit, strawberries and honey and blend until smooth.

 

Berry Good Workout Smoothie

Get the energy you need to power through your workout in minutes with this easy-to-make smoothie recipe. For an extra dose of calcium, try adding a teaspoon of organic kale powder.

SERVINGS: 1

Ingredients:

  • 1½ cup chopped strawberries
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • ½ cup raspberries
  • 2 tbsp honey

BLEND all of the ingredients together.

 

Green Tea, Blueberry and Banana Smoothie

Antioxidant-rich green tea makes this healthy smoothie a nutritional powerhouse.

SERVINGS: 1

Ingredients:

  • 3 Tbsp water
  • 1 green tea bag or any tea bag that you use
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1½ cup frozen blueberries
  • ½ medium banana
  • ¾ cup calcium fortified light vanilla soy milk

Directions:

  1. MICROWAVE water on high until steaming hot (49℃) in a small bowl. Add tea bag and allow to brew for three minutes. Remove tea bag. Add and stir honey into tea until it dissolves.
  2. Blend berries, banana, tea and milk in a blender.
  3. ADD tea to blender. Blend ingredients on ice crush or highest setting until smooth. (Some blenders may require additional water to process the mixture.) Pour smoothie into tall glass and serve.
