If you were recently late to class or had to check out from school to go home, you may have noticed some changes in the office staff.

Before second semester started, the administration made some changes in the office staff. Due to former Financial Technician Judy Ma’s retirement, former Attendance Technician Calvin Wong was appointed as the new Financial Technician.

Wong’s job is to maintain the balance in budget for the Associated Student Body as well as to build connections with student activities.

“I really enjoy [my new job],” Wong said. “It gives me more time for me to get closer to student activities without worrying about absence calls or getting students out of a class. It really allows me to be more flexible with what I want to do for this school.”

While Wong was adapting to his new position, a familiar face took his place at the attendance desk. Having worked as the Study Buddies Society coordinator for three years, Monique Balentine was placed in charge as the new Attendance Technician in the office. As a result, Carole Newman will be taking Balentine’s position as the new SBS coordinator.

“[My new job] was a little [more] challenging than I thought, as being organized is definitely an important part of my job,” Balentine said, “It is definitely different [because] you work with kids in a different way and you have to interact with parents also.”

As the office changes, so will the interactions between students and administrators.

“I am looking forward to these new changes,” ASB Secretary Deb Mandac said. “It’s just going to take some time for [both students and staff] to get used to these changes.”
