Matador of the week: Sunny Shan

1150333_10201862243139421_101407245_n EE: You mentioned how you were getting recruited, so tell us about that.

Sunny: Well, last year was my first year in track and field and I guess I did pretty well throughout the season, I started the year with a 2:41, I run the 800, and by the end I got it down to 2:26 and made it to CCS. And then, I contacted some schools I was interested in with the online recruit forms, and some of the coaches emailed me and we talked back and forth. And most of them sounded noncommittal except for Mount Holyoke who sent me like this thing in the mail saying ‘You’re officially being recruited.’ And then they have an event for recruited athletes called “Focus on Athletics’ which I’m going to in 3 weeks.

EE: Are there any specific schools you want to be recruited to?

Shan: I mean, I’m happy with what I have but it’d be cool if there were more schools, cause I’ve been in contact with like Colorado college and I’ve been recruited to UC Santa Cruz but it’s like my safety school now.

EE: What are some of your personal records?

Shan: Well I run the 4×4 and the 800 and sometimes the mile, for 4×4, we don’t have official times but I run varsity so that’s about 65 seconds, and I have a 2:26 for my 800, which I got at CCS, and the mile, I only ran it once, but it was 5:54.
