Food: Starbucks Happy Hour provides half-price delights

Food: Starbucks Happy Hour provides half-price delights

Starbucks offers half-off Frappuccino drinks from May 6 to May 15, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Imagine getting a refreshing blended beverage on a blazing hot day. If that doesn’t sound good enough, imagine getting it half off the normal price. From May 6 to May 15, Starbucks Coffee Company is offering their “Happy Hour” promotion for the popular Frappuccino drink, a flavored coffee drink blended with ice and other ingredients, like strawberry flavoring. During this week, every Frappuccino beverage is half off between the hours of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. In other words, a Grande size drink, which is usually $4.15 for most flavors, is only slightly more than two dollars, less than the cost of the smallest size normally.A large sign at the entrance of the Starbucks on 20520 Stevens Creek Boulevard advertises the Happy Hour promotion.

Starbucks advertises that anyone can become a “Frappuccino Mix Master” simply by using their cheat sheet, a checklist that allows a customer to create their own custom Frappuccino free of extra charge. With almost a limitless amount of combinations that can be made, the Frappuccino can be made in a way that is sure to please even the pickiest coffee drinkers.

First, the customer selects from a list of over ten different flavors, including a few not usually seen on Starbucks’ ordinary overhead menu, such as Toffee Nut and Peppermint. The flavors come in Regular, Light, and Crème versions, which contain different levels of sugar and coffee. Next, he chooses what kind of milk, either soy, whole, or half-and-half, that  they would like added their blended drink. The Frappuccino connoisseur can further personalize their drink with other changes like extra espresso shots or decaffeinated coffee. Lastly, the customer can choose to have their drink topped off with a generous dollop of whipped cream, swirls of caramel or mocha drizzle, or even toasted coconut flakes.

The company has been widely advertising their Happy Hour promotion through social media like Facebook and text messaging reminders to customers who request the service. Of course, most Starbucks stores now have longer lines between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m, and although it can often take more than fifteen minutes to get a drink, in the end, it is worth the extra wait. After all, when else can a coffee aficionado get a completely customizable, chilly blended drink for half price?
