Student Life’s Super Smash Brothers tournament draws unexpected interest

Student Life Commission held a Super Smash Brothers video game tournament during lunch in the field house from Sept 14 to Sept. 16.

Sign-ups for the tournament were held the week before, during which interested players signed up as partners. A total of 31 teams signed up, but due to space limitations, only eight teams were allowed to compete. A lottery system was used to determine the final competitors. The overwhelming interest in the tournament was unexpected as this is the first time the student life commission has organized a Super Smash Brothers tournament.

"It was really exciting that we got so many people signed up and interested," student life commissioner senior Maayan Yakir said. "It’s a shame that we couldn’t have enough materials and equipments for everyone to play."

Teams were put into brackets, and players had to win two out of three rounds in order to move up. The two members of the winning team then faced each other in the one-on-one final round.

After three days, junior Samuel Sharps was named Super Smash Brothers Champion while his partner junior Caleb Kim was runner-up.
